Pletna boats are made by locals and are typical of Bled with origins dating back to 1590. It is a wooden flat-bottom boat designed according to the concept of the Venetian gondola, but with its own features, a pointed bow and the stern widened with a step to enable passengers to enter. Boats are 7 metres long and 2 metres wide andare propelled with the special »stehrudder« technique where the oarsman is standing and rowing with two oars. Once on pretty Bled Island enjoy the lovely scenery and Gothic Church, there's also a cafe, lovely walks and of course a souvenir shop - the 99 steps up to the chapel may not be for everyone - but just know if you wanted to marry in the chapel, tradition states that the groom must carry the bride up them!!! I don't think David will be carrying Joan up there!!
